Federal MP for Paterson Meryl Swanson would like to hear from community organisations and local governments that could use a share of up to $150,000 available to fund small capital projects.

Ms Swanson’s office is seeking expressions of interest for the Stronger Communities Programme, which offers sums between $2,500 and $20,000 to successful applicants.

To be eligible for a grant, applicants are required to match grants in cash or in-kind on at least a dollar for dollar basis.

“This programme funds small capital projects which deliver social benefits by supporting community participation and contributing to the vibrancy of local communities,” said Ms Swanson.

“I’m inviting local organisations to submit an expression of interest outlining their project.  The Paterson electorate community consultation committee will identify priority projects and then invite selected groups to formally apply for funding.

“An expression of interest can be completed online by visiting my website, http://merylswanson.com.au/news/grants/ or my office can arrange to have a copy mailed to you,” said Ms Swanson.

Examples of successful applications in previous rounds include:

  • $8,000 for the East Maitland Men's Shed to upgrade their mezzanine floor;
  • $15,000 for the Maitland Hockey Club to build a toilet block, canteen and change sheds;
  • $20,000 for the Kurri Tennis Club, to replace two existing courts; and
  • $8,000 to the Port Stephens SES to purchase training equipment.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact the Paterson Electorate Office on 4983 2401 to find out more information about the programme.
