Addressing Australia’s Tsunami of Eye Disease

14 September 2021

Concerns have been raised about eye disease and optometrists being an under-utilised resource.

In Australia, more than 450,000 people are living with vision impairment or blindness and, like many say, around 90 per cent of all blindness and vision impairment in Australia is preventable or treatable if detected early.

Labor has met with Optometry Australia to hear their concerns and we will continue to work with them in the lead up to the next election.

All Australians deserve access to universal, prompt, and world class medical care, and no one deserves to face a multi-year wait for vital treatments simply due to the cost.

Labor built Medicare and we will always protect it.
