CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY IN PORT STEPHENS: "COUNT HER IN" EVENT AIMS TO ACCELERATE GENDER EQUALITY THROUGH ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

In the spirit of fostering gender equality and celebrating the achievements of women around the globe, Meryl Swanson and Kate Washington are proud to announce a special International Women's Day event, themed "Count Her In: Accelerating gender equality through economic empowerment."

In its 6th year, this consistently sold-out and highly regarded event is dedicated to celebrating and championing the economic empowerment of women of Port Stephens. This year’s theme aims to collectively propel gender equality forward, ensuring that every woman is included and recognised, not just today but every day.

Hosted at the Murrook Culture Centre, the event promises an inspiring day of celebrating our unique women, creating dialogue, and networking opportunities, all aimed at empowering women and advocating for their rightful place in decision-making across all levels of society.

Scheduled for Thursday March 7, 2024, this landmark event is being spearheaded by Meryl Swanson and Kate Washington, two distinguished leaders who share a passionate commitment to promoting gender equality and have been vocal advocates for closing the gender pay gap and ensuring women's economic empowerment.

"Count Her In" is more than just a theme; it's a call to action to recognise and harness the potential of women in driving sustainable economic growth and societal progress. The event at Murrook Culture Centre will feature a panel of impressive local school leaders, recognition of our local woman of the year, as well as an opportunity to see local business women promote their products and services at the “market” directly following the formalities.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the Murrook Culture Centre, a venue that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the area, adding a unique backdrop to an event dedicated to forward-thinking and empowerment.

Since the event commenced in 2018, Hunter Water, Tomago Aluminium and Newcastle Airport have sponsored the event, with all proceeds donated to the Port Stephens Family and Neighbourhood Services, the Yacaaba Centre and Indigenous Women’s programs at Murrook Culture Centre.

"Women's voices are essential in decision-making processes, not just for their own benefit but for the betterment of society as a whole. By coming together at this event, we're taking a step forward in creating a more inclusive, equitable world.

"As we mark International Women's Day, let us renew our commitment to championing gender equality and the fight for equal pay. It's about recognising the invaluable contributions of women in every sphere of life and ensuring they are rewarded equitably. Together, we can build a world where gender no longer determines one's opportunities or income."
