A ‘For Lease’ sign in the window of Kurri Kurri Centrelink has caused immediate concern for me and my community, especially residents who rely on services such as the aged pension, carers allowance, disability support pension and child care rebates.
Since my office was notified of the signs, I have made representations to the Minister for Social Services and the Department encouraging them to resolve the leasing issue as soon as possible. While my conversations are ongoing, the Government is yet to confirm the future of this centre.
Medicare and Centrelink services help people when they need it most. This Government must reassure the Kurri Kurri community there is no intention to relocate this service.
A Shorten Labor Government will guarantee the ongoing operation of Centrelink in Kurri Kurri, as well as providing 50 new full time jobs across the electorate of Paterson.
I will continue to reach out to the Minister to ensure the secure future of Kurri Kurri Centrelink.
