Local Veterans Honoured in Paterson

01 March 2019

Member for Paterson, Meryl Swanson, has expressed her gratitude to local veterans for their service and sacrifice during times of both war and peace this week at a presentation in Raymond Terrace.

“I was honoured to present Certificates of Appreciation to local veterans who have proudly served our nation. The certificates recognise their service during war, conflicts and peacekeeping operations that have taken place since the Second World War,” Ms Swanson said.

“The presentation provided our community with another opportunity to express our thanks for the contribution these local men and women have made to our nation. No matter what age or ability, each of the recipients donned their best attire and their medals. It was a really important way to salute their service.”

Under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Saluting Their Service commemorations program, Certificates of Appreciation are available to those who have served during the Second World War (in the armed forces or as civilians on the home front), with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) Japan, Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesian Confrontation, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, War in Afghanistan and during peacekeeping operations.

Certificates of Appreciation are also available as a lasting legacy to the family of deceased eligible veterans and civilians.

“It is important that we as a community continue to recognise the contribution of our local veterans, whether it is on overseas service or at home.”

Applications for the second round of certificates is now open. For information about applying, visit www.dva.gov.au or call the office of Meryl Swanson on 4983 2401.
