Labor supports stringent environmental assessment and standards for all mining projects. Adani is no different. Labor will not oppose the project as long as it meets all relevant environmental approvals and, as we said before it should stand on its own merits.
The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility is another example of Malcolm Turnbull's incompetence - it was set up months ago and not a single cent has been spent on better infrastructure for Northern Australia.
It shows how out of touch Malcolm Turnbull is - he just doesn’t get it.
He needs to get on with it and start investing in Northern Australia to build infrastructure and create the jobs the region desperately needs.
Labor has said that this project should stand on its own merits without public funding. The company itself has said it does not need public funding to go ahead.
We would be very concerned if the Federal Government was considering spending a fifth of the fund on one project.
That would take money away from other vital job generating projects for Northern Australia.
